We had to be in NYC for meetings this past week so we decided to stay a couple of days to focus a little energy into some personal fine art projects that we have slowly been bringing to life. The commutes into NYC are always odd, as the NYC traffic police seemingly make up stuff randomly. I am sure there are reasons that you can't turn left one hour of the day, and then can the next, but it's often baffling. On our way out we had to drive all the way from the west side to the east side only to drive all the way back one block over to get on the West Side Highway. Ahhh the fun of commuting by car! You just have to laugh and be light hearted about it as there is no other way.
THE ROXY HOTEL NYC
We've been staying at a different hotel each time we are in the city, and this time found a little gem called The Roxy Hotel. The Roxy borders Tribeca and Soho so it's in a good location. It's also a boutique hotel, and the service was tremendous. One of the best parts of The Roxy was that you could spend a weekend there and be entertained without ever leaving the hotel. The lobby/lounge is huge and open, and there is live entertainment most every night. There is also The Django Jazz Club in the basement if you want to live it up late night with some great music and have a few cocktails. The tab at Django can run up pretty quickly as the cocktails are $18 each. However, there isn't a cover charge and the atmosphere and jazz was worth the amount spent on relaxing in such a cool space. The restaurant in the lobby of the Roxy was also charming. We had brunch and both the coffee, the speciality juices, and the meal were spectacular. Just a step outside you'll also find several reasonable local restaurants to choose from and you are also just a few block from plenty of designer shopping as well. We loved our stay at The Roxy, and we would recommend it.
TESTING NEW FILMMAKING GEAR
This weekend was a great opportunity to test out a new camera we got in called the DJI OSMO. It's quite a remarkable little camera that captures footage that is incredibly smooth. It's a hot ticket item right now since launch a couple of weeks ago. We loved the OSMO, but had some mixed experiences with it. We can only assume that it will be improved upon with software updates. We ended up not keeping the camera due to some technical issues, but we wouldn't be surprised if this succeeds quite well once a few issues are ironed out. You can read more about our experience with the OSMO in a the technology section here on Together In Style.
CHARLEE LIMITED EDITION FINE ART FASHIONS
As for our current personal fine art project...?? Those who spend any amount of time with us personally come to learn that we are true artists through and through. While most realize that we have made our living with a camera now for over 25 years photographing and filming assignments for our clients on the very high end, we also have deep roots in graphic design and fine art print making. It's been an illustrious career. With this many years in business we come from a film photography background in which we hand printed our photographs in the darkroom for our clients. We adore digital photography as well, but the process of digital photography simply isn't as deep and thoughtful as film was. We miss that in a lot of ways. So, to bring deep thinking style art back into our lives I started painting several years ago.
As a fine art painter, I am always creating something new. Many of my paintings take months of thought and energy to produce which makes them valuable. It reminds me of how photography once was. However, now we are taking it up several notches combining all of our skills into some creative new projects and products that are evolving. After finishing a painting I digital photography and archive the images. I then use our graphic design skills to remix the painting digitally so that it has a completely new fashionable flair. We then have the image printed onto fabrics which are elegant, soft to the touch, and machine washable. Lastly we have the fabrics sewn by hand creating limited edition wearable fashion. We are working with American companies to produce our fashions, and we take a great deal of pride in the quality of what is being produced.
My name being Charles, and my wife's middle name being Lee, we are slowly unveiling CHARLEE LIMITED EDITION FINE ART FASHIONS. As a starting point we are producing leggings, scarfs, and several fashionable skirts, which will be available made to order and delivered to your door within three weeks. We are also going to make the remix designs available as large format home decor wall art printed on canvas and stretched on 2" stretcher bars.
So... That's another week of OUR REEL LIFE. Follow us daily on Instagram to see it all coming to life, and make sure to keep an eye out for our creating fashions, which will debut soon!
