Thanksgiving and the Holiday Rush
The Thanksgiving holiday came and went, and we had a great celebration over at Jennifer's dad's house. Jennifer also created an incredible dinner for two on our front porch the day after Thanksgiving which as a nice surprise. She always has a way of making the house feel like home!
We have been decorating our home and studio like crazy, along with creating some wonderful holiday portrait sessions for lifelong clients of ours. It's a blessed time of year around our home, and we go all out for the Christmas holiday. This year we've done portrait sessions at client's homes, at tree farms, and in the studio and it's been great to reconnect with people who we have been photographing their families every year for the past 20 years. You can learn more about hiring us to photography your family at www.maringvisuals.com.
Winterizing the House
It's been warm, but winter is on the way of course. That means we have to winterize the pool, and the water lines that lead down to the pool house. We also have to get the snowblower working properly, which is why I'm up early in the am knocking these things out one by one. That also means getting the Craftsman snowblower ready to roll. A few parts had to be replaced this year, but I won't complain as this snowblower has lasted a good 11 years with very few repairs.
Words of Wisdom... Art and Technology
We are big fans of technology, and are usually early adopters of creative tools. However, the hard part of being in a technology industry is that there are daily obstacles. This week one of our iMac's went down. Last month we through out 3 G5 Mac Pro Towers that had finally bit the dust and became part of our computer graveyard. I bring this up because it's easy for outsiders think that digital photography is cheap an easy. Nothing could be further from the truth. Between the time and money it takes to stay up to date, keep old gear running, and constant software and operating system upgrades this industry has a way of breaking you down. We have to choose gear wisely, but even then it changes so fast!
Christmas Trees
We got our own Christmas Trees this week as well. Two are real, and we got them at Kogut's Hemlock Hill in Meriden, CT. Koguts always has high quality trees, and they also have some that are on the larger and taller side, which is what we look for. In all, we have 6 trees this year between the house and studio. Next up we will be decorating the porch, and gearing up for a warm holiday celebration at home. Due to holiday sessions Jennifer hasn't had a moment to focus on filming and sharing her cookies, and holiday recipes, but I know she wants to. Hopefully this week will give us an opportunity to share.
Hope your home is full of holiday joy, and you are making the season bright!
